Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement, Headlights And Air Filters
Your car has a number of features that help you drive safely. Things like wiper blades, headlights and air filters are important parts of your car that require regular maintenance. Unfortunately, they’re also car parts we don’t think about until they don’t work when we need them.
Fortunately, your local Tire Pros offers a variety of services:
Air filter replacement (engine)
Air filter replacement (cabin)
Headlight & blub replacement
What’s an engine air filter?
This type of air filter cleans the air that flows into the engine. Clean air helps your car run more efficiently.
What’s a cabin air filter?
This type of air filter cleans the outside air flowing through the heating and air conditioning system into the cabin of your vehicle. It traps dust, pollen and pollutants so you can breathe easier while you’re driving.
Why do I need to replace air filters?
Both filters should be replaced on a periodic basis as they become dirty over time while capturing contaminants from the air.
How often do they need to be replaced?
Check your vehicle’s service schedule to see how often you should replace the engine air filter. Depending on the vehicle, it could be every 15,000 to 30,000 miles. If you drive in dusty conditions it will be more often than that. If you drive a lower than average number of miles per year, you should replace it every three years.
The average replacement period for the cabin air filter is around 12,000 to 15,000 miles. You could replace it more frequently if you drive in dusty conditions like on unpaved roads.
How often should I replace headlights?
Headlights or headlight bulbs should be replaced about every two years, depending on how much night driving you do. For cars with sealed beam headlights, the entire unit that contains the filament, reflector and lens is replaced. For cars with halogen or high intensity discharge bulbs, only the bulb is replaced. The reflector and lens are re-used. If one headlight fails, they should both be replaced at the same time.
How long do headlights last?
Typically, at least two years, but they also lose intensity over time. So you may be driving with dim lights and not realize it.
Windshield wiper replacement
How often should I replace windshield wiper blades?
Replace wiper blades every 6 to 12 months, depending on how often you use them. Ideally you’ll replace them at the start of winter and the start of spring.
How long do windshield wiper blades last?
Typically 6 to 12 months. Dry conditions can be harder on wipers than lots of rain because the rubber dries out and becomes stiff. If the wipers don’t make proper contact with the windshield, leaving streaks, smears, or make chattering or squeaking noises, it’s time for new wipers.
