Does the older the car, the higher the fuel consumption?
Many people will encounter such problems. The more they drive, the more familiar they are. However, as the age of the car increases, the fuel consumption of the car is getting higher and higher. In fact, this is not a malfunction of the car. It is because some of your car parts need to be maintained or replaced. There is no inevitable connection between the service life of cars and fuel consumption.
The increase in general fuel consumption is mainly closely related to 6 factors:
- 1. Check tire pressure and tire wear frequently
If the tire pressure is too low, the friction between the tire and the ground will increase, the resistance will increase, and the fuel consumption will increase. When driving, if the taxiing distance of the car is obviously reduced, you should check whether the tire air pressure meets the air pressure standard. Normal tire pressure is around 2.5bar, and it can be reduced by 0.1bar in summer. Also remember to check the degree of wear of the tires. If the tires are severely worn, they will often slip, and the fuel consumption will also increase. Generally, every 50,000 kilometers, you must change a new set of tires.
- 2. Pay attention to oil, clean up carbon deposits
Many car owners do not pay attention to oil products. Poor quality gasoline will increase carbon deposits. Too much carbon deposits will make the intake pipe wall rough, affect the intake effect and the quality of the mixed gas, and fuel consumption will rise sharply. Therefore, the quality of gasoline cannot be ignored, and it is essential to clean up the carbon deposit every six months.
- 3. Periodically replace the spark plug
The function of the spark plug is to ignite the mixture with high voltage electricity. If damaged, the ignition energy will drop, and the mixture will burn unevenly, resulting in a slower car speed increase and increased fuel consumption. The life span of ordinary spark plugs is only 30,000- 50,000 kilometers, the life span of iridium gold spark plugs is about 50,000-80,000 kilometers, and the life span of platinum spark plugs can reach 100,000 kilometers!
- 4. 80,000-110 thousand kilometers, replace the oxygen sensor
This is a ceramic element located on the exhaust pipe of the engine, used to detect and control the ratio of oxygen to fuel. After a long time of use, the computer of the electronic fuel injection system cannot obtain the information of the oxygen concentration in the exhaust pipe. The concentration of the mixed gas in the engine tends to be high, and the fuel consumption also increases. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly check the status of the oxygen sensor, which usually needs to be replaced when it is 80,000-110,000 kilometers.
- 5. Replace the battery regularly
The battery controls the circuit inside the car, and the circuit is closely related to the oil circuit. Because the general battery will have a shortage of electricity for 2-3 years of use, resulting in insufficient starting voltage, the motor drives the engine to be weak, and the ignition energy becomes low, so fuel consumption soars. So don’t think that the battery can continue to be used without damage. To reduce fuel consumption, the battery must be replaced regularly.
- 6. Car maintenance regularly
Cars such as the human body should be maintained and updated
regularly. It is not enough to just replace gasoline and engine oil.
Some aging parts also need to be replaced. General auto parts have a
certain life cycle, which exceeds the use. The
time limit will seriously affect the performance of the car, and even
bring about safety problems. Therefore, according to the manufacturer’s
manual, replace it in time according to the vehicle condition.
